Marco Filippo Romano

Marco Filippo Romano is one of the most talented buffo baritones on the Italian and international opera scene. He regularly sings at leading theatres and festivals (including La Fenice, Regio di Turin, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Real in Madrid, Bayerische Staatsoper, Den Norske Opera in Oslo, Daegu Opera House in South Korea, Glyndebourne Festival, Wexford Festival, Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca).

Born in Caltanissetta (Sicily), he began his vocal studies after completing a horn degree at the Bellini Conservatory in Palermo. Today he is a sought-after interpreter of Rossini roles - in particular Don Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia is one of his parade roles, which he has embodied with great success on numerous international stages (including Turin, Rome, Florence, Genoa, Bologna, Oslo, at the Glyndebourne Festival and in South Korea). He was also celebrated as Don Profondo (Il viaggio a Reims) and as Raimondo Lopez (Matilde di Shabran) at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro and as Leuthold (Guillaume Tell) and Omar (Siège de Corinthe) at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad. Other important roles in his repertoire include: Don Magnifico (La cenerentola), Don Geronio (Il turco in Italia), Taddeo (L'italiana in Algeri), further Mozart roles such as Leporello (Don Giovanni) and Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) and Donizetti roles such as Don Pasquale, Dulcamara and Belcore in L'elisir d'amore, Mamma Agata (Le conveninenze ed inconvenienze teatrali). In addition, he also sang La Generala in Salieri's Il mondo alla rovescia, Max in Adolphe Adam's Le Chalet, Albrigòr in Alfredo Casella's La donna serpente, Schaunard (La bohème), Felice in Giorgio Battistelli's Il medico dei pazzi, Michele Gamautte in Meyerbeer's Margherita d'Anjou and Fra Melitone (La forza del destino). Recent engagements include Leonardo Vinci's Li zite 'ngalera at La Scala in Milan, Il barbiere di Siviglia at La Scala in Milan, Bologna, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Den Norske Opera Oslo and Rome, La cenerentola at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, La serva padrona, Telemann's Pimpinone and L'elisir d'amore at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Così fan tutte under Riccardo Muti in Turin, Dulcamara at the Teatro La Fenice, Il matrimonio segreto at the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca, Donizetti's Pietro il grande at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo, Don Pasquale at the Bolshoi Theatre, in Piacenza, Modena and Reggio Emilia. Future appearances will take him to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Savonlinna Festival, the Teatro Regio Parma and the Semperoper Dresden with Il barbiere di Siviglia, to Bologna as Dulcamara and to La Scala in Milan as Frau Melitone.
