Serena Sáenz

The Spanish soprano Serena Sáenz is praised by the press for her »musicality, good taste in ornamentation, and bright high notes with a good arsenal of Bel canto resources« (Scherzo). Despite her young age, she is already a regular guest at some of the world's most prestigious opera houses. For the start of the 2022/23 season, she returns to the Gran Teatre del Liceu as Norina in Don Pasquale and makes her role debut as Lisa in the new production of La sonnambula at the Teatro Real in Madrid. Additionally, the soprano can be seen as Frasquita in Carmen at the Staatsoper Berlin. Numerous concert performances are also planned.

Highlights from past seasons include appearances as Nannetta in Falstaff, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, and as Clorinda in La cenerentola. The young artist also made a phenomenal debut in the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, where she was later heard as Prilepa (Pique Dame) and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte). In 2021, Serena Sáenz won the first prize as well as the Audience Award at the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition and received several awards at both the Paris Opera Competition and the Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona.

In 2019, at just 25 years old, Serena Sáenz, as a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Berlin, was seen as Pamina and sang Frasquita and Waldvogel (Siegfried). Serena Sáenz was born in Barcelona in 1994. She made her professional debut at the age of 13 in the children's opera Brundibár by Hans Krása at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Sáenz studied at the Liceu Conservatoire in Barcelona under Dolores Aldea and at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. She attended masterclasses with Mariella Devia, Neil Shicoff, Wolfram Rieger, Montserrat Caballé, Teresa Berganza, Dolora Zajick, and Riccardo Frizza. In addition to her musical training, Serena Sáenz also studied ballet and modern dance and holds a fitness coach certification.
