Russian mezzo-soprano ELENA MANISTINA studied in her hometown at the Saratov Music Conservatory and later at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 2002, she won first prize at the Operalia Competition and made her stage debut as Marfa in Khovanshchina in Saratov. She was successful with Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Oviedo Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra national du Rhin, Opéra Bastille and Teatro Municipal di Santiago, among others. She has also sung Azucena (Il trovatore) regularly at the New York Met, the Bavarian State Opera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Washington Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, the Opéra Bastille, the Opéra National de Bordeaux and the Opéra de Marseille. Marina Mnischek (Boris Godunov) she gave in London, Ježibaba (Rusalka) with the Canadian Opera Company, Mazeppa with the Monte-Carlo Opera, Martha (Jolantha) and Lyubasha (The Tsar's Bride) at the Frankfurt Opera.
