Andrew Watts
Few countertenors have pushed the boundaries of repertoire and sound as far as ANDREW WATTS. His dramatic voice and extraordinary stage presence make him not only a unique interpreter of roles traditionally associated with this voice type, but also a pioneer of the 20th/21st century repertoire. He is particularly associated with roles such as Edgar in Reiman's Lear, which he has sung at the Bavarian and Hamburg State Operas in Hamburg, the Paris Opera, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Teatro Real Madrid. In addition to the core roles of the countertenor repertoire, he has sung over 60 world premieres at the ROH Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival, La Scala, La Fenice, Berlin and Bavarian State Opera, Salzburg, Bregenz, Lucerne, Aldeburgh, Edinburgh International Festival, Ruhrtriennale and BBC Proms. His most recent appearances include The Outcast with the Ensemble Intercontemporrain, Keyframes for a Hippogriff with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and in Lyon, Lear at the Bavarian State Opera, Peter Pan in Bolzano and Schnittke's Faust Cantata with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra.
