Claudio Sgura

The Italian baritone Claudio Sgura is acclaimed as one of best performers of Verdi, Puccini and Verismo repertoire. In 2006 he was an awardee at the prestigious “Voci Verdiane” competition, and one year later he made his debut at Teatro alla Scala Milan as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly conducted by Myung Whun Chung. He was invited back at La Scala in 2011 as Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana with Daniel Harding and in 2016 as Jack Rance in La fanciulla del West with Riccardo Chailly. He has already performed in such theaters as Metropolitan New York, Vienna State Opera, Paris National Opera, Royal Opera House London. His recent highlights include Jack LaMotta in the world premiere of the new opera Edith at Opera Carlo Felice in Genoa, Scarpia in Tosca in Hong Kong, Renato in Un ballo in maschera in Oslo, Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatro Regio Parma, Gérard in Andrea Chénier at Opéra de Monte-Carlo, La fanciulla del West at Bavarian State Opera, Escamillo in Carmen at Arena di Verona.
