Maria Motolygina

Several competition prizes, in particular 1st prize at the 2021 Queen Sonja International Music Competition, drew the attention of the music world to the young Russian soprano Maria Motolygina. Her repertoire already includes a wide range of roles, including Amelia (Simon Boccanegra), Micaëla (Carmen), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin) and Kupava in Rimsky-Korsakov's Snowflake. She appeared as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the Dmitri Hvorostovsky International Opera Festival, sang the title role in Tchaikovsky's The Maid of Orleans at the Novaya Opera in Moscow and the title role in a televised Iolanta. On the concert stage, she sang Wagner's Wesendonck-Lieder with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra. In 2022/23, she was awarded the Bel Canto Scholarship of the Förderkreis der Deutschen Oper Berlin. In the same season, she made her debut at the Vienna State Opera as Madame Lidoine in a new production of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. In 2023/24, she can be seen as Suor Angelica and Giorgetta in Il trittico, Liù (Turandot), Contessa d'Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Micaëla and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. On the concert stage, she will give a recital at the Wigmore Hall and sing Iolanta (concertante) with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.
